Softball Preview: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Mt. Carmel Golden Aces

The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces at 5:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Mt. Vernon's hitters might be in the hot seat on Tuesday considering what happened against Jasper on Saturday. They lost 10-0 to the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel entered their tilt with Marshall with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Lions on Monday.

Lyla Keepes was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Keepes has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Keepes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Keepes wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evie Sellers, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Mt. Vernon has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Mt. Carmel, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with that win, which was their third straight at home.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Mt. Vernon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mt.
