Baseball Game Preview: West Mesquite Wranglers vs. Mesquite Skeeters

West Mesquite hasn't had much luck against Mesquite recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Wranglers are taking a road trip to challenge the Skeeters at 3:00 p.m. West Mesquite has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Things were looking good for West Mesquite after they put the first runs on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Seagoville by a score of 16-15. The Wranglers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

David Sanchez Maya was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4. West Mesquite is 2-1 when Sanchez Maya posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-20 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Mesquite earned a 7-3 win over Lancaster on Friday. That's two games straight that the Skeeters have won by exactly four runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Mesquite and bumps their season record up to 17-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for West Mesquite, their loss dropped their record down to 4-21.

West Mesquite couldn't quite get it done against Mesquite when the teams last played back in February of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Wranglers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
