Basketball Game Preview: Ray Texans vs. Miller Buccaneers

Ray is 2-8 against Miller since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ray Texans will host the Miller Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Ray is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since December 29, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial 86-55. While losing is never fun, the Texans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 284th, while the Eagles are ranked 16th).

Meanwhile, Miller got the win against Alice on Saturday by a conclusive 66-42. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-14.

Miller found their leader in freshman Dexter Brantley, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 18 points and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brantley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of George Simmons, who posted 11 points and five assists.

Miller's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Ray, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8.

Ray came up short against Miller in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 68-55. Can Ray avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
