Basketball Game Preview: Greenfield-Central Cougars vs. Herron Achaeans

The Greenfield-Central Cougars will challenge the Herron Achaeans at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Greenfield-Central will be strutting in after a victory while Herron will be coming in after a loss.

Greenfield-Central took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Perry Meridian 55-24. That looming 55-24 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Greenfield-Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Juliann Jones out in front who posted 11 points and five steals. Jones is becoming a predictor of the Cougars' success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 3-1 (and 3-8 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Kerkhof, who earned eight points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Greenfield-Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2025.

Herron played against Dugger Union two weeks ago and lost via forfeit.

Herron is on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10. As for Greenfield-Central, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.

Everything went Greenfield-Central's way against Herron in their previous matchup back in December of 2017, as Greenfield-Central made off with a 44-18 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Achaeans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
