Softball Preview: Rockmart Yellowjackets vs. Sonoraville Phoenix
Rockmart has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Sonoraville Phoenix at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Rockmart will head into Thursday's game on the come-up: they were handed a two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against North Murray last Thursday. Rockmart put the hurt on North Murray with a sharp 9-1 win.
Rockmart's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Madi Sanders, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was MaryKate Dunn, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Rockmart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Murray only posted a batting average of .200.
Meanwhile, Sonoraville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 10-1 margin over the Panthers.
Lila Mullinax looked comfortable as she tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lakelin Hall, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Martin, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
