Basketball Game Preview: Chicago Marshall Commandos vs. Guilford Vikings

The Chicago Marshall Commandos and the Guilford Vikings will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Chicago Marshall's tournament run continued when they took on Elmwood Park on Friday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2025 than the 69-36 stomp they got against the Tigers. That 33-point margin sets a new team best for the Commandos this season.

Meanwhile, Guilford entered their tilt with Dunbar on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 61-52 win over the Mightymen. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Mightymen are ranked 336th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chicago Marshall better keep an eye on Branden Chatman. He was instrumental in Guilford's win, putting up 33 points. The contest was Chatman's third in a row with at least 16 points.

Guilford's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Chicago Marshall, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.

Chicago Marshall ended up a good deal behind Guilford in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, losing 70-51. Can the Commandos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
