Softball Recap: Black River Beats Smithville for Their Third Straight Victory

Black River had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They blew past the Smithville Smithies 14-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-2 on Saturday.

Rebekah Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, Jenna Dieter was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Rosales, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

Dieter wasn't the only one making solid contact: Black River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Black River's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Smithville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Black River will venture away from home to take on Keystone at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Smithville, they will take on Rittman at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Smithies are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
