Softball Recap: Sparta Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Haven, Sparta was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Kenowa Hills Knights. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.

Taliya Dauser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 18 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Paige Wilcox, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Alexa VanVliet was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Sparta's victory bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Kenowa Hills, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sparta beat Kenowa Hills by a score of 14-4 later that day.
