Baseball Game Preview: Cherry Creek Bruins vs. Cherokee Trail Cougars

The Cherry Creek Bruins will venture away from home to face off against the Cherokee Trail Cougars at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Cherry Creek will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.

On Tuesday, Cherry Creek earned a 9-5 win over Mullen.

Connor Larkin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sean Goldy, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Tyce Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Cherokee Trail didn't have quite enough to beat Eaglecrest on Monday and fell 5-4. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cherry Creek pushed their record up to 13-4-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cherokee Trail, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.

Cherry Creek was able to grind out a solid victory over Cherokee Trail when the teams last played last Tuesday, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
