Softball Recap: Ascension Catholic Has No Trouble Against North Iberville

Ascension Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt North Iberville on Monday. Ascension Catholic blew past North Iberville 15-0. Considering the Bulldogs have won 12 games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Gauthe made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Ascension Catholic let Emma Delatte and Sydney Viallon run wild. Delatte went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Viallon scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI Delatte has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Delatte, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Ascension Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Ascension Catholic's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for North Iberville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Ascension Catholic will face off against Archbishop Hannan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Archbishop Hannan will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Ascension Catholic surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Iberville, they will take on White Castle at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
