Basketball Game Preview: Childersburg Tigers vs. Talladega Tigers

Childersburg and Talladega are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Childersburg Tigers will take on the Talladega Tigers in a tournament on Friday. Talladega took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Childersburg, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Childersburg turned things around against Dadeville on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 57-18 win over the Tigers. The contest marked Childersburg's most dominant victory of the season so far.

Meanwhile, Talladega played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Jacksonville an easy 73-53 win. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 66th).

Childersburg will have to contain Zae Cunningham as she made an impact in Talladega's last game. She dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. That was a full 35.8% of Talladega's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Justasia Pointer, who put up 15 points and five rebounds.

Childersburg's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8. As for Talladega, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Childersburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Talladega in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 65-63. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Talladega's Zae Cunningham, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 steals. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Childersburg to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
