Softball Recap: Archbishop McCarthy Triumphs

Archbishop McCarthy was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They skirted past the Westminster Academy Lions 6-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 back in February.

Sienna Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Krista Confesssore was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Alexis Nightingale was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

The win made it two in a row for Archbishop McCarthy and bumps their season record up to 9-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Westminster Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.

Archbishop McCarthy and Westminster Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Mavericks will face off against Cypress Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (82 vs. 229). Meanwhile, Westminster Academy (ranked 97th) will meet Seminole Ridge (ranked 209th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
