Basketball Recap: Jordan Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Luella over Douglass

If Luella was feeling good fresh off their 77-48 takedown of Mt. Zion on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Luella Lions took a 58-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Douglass Astros on Saturday.

Luella's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Smith, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Smith is becoming a predictor of Luella's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 8-2 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Cordarius Wood was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Luella's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Douglass, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.

Luella didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 88-47 victory against Stone Mountain on the 27th. Douglass has also already played their next contest (against Mt. Zion), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
