Preview: Willis Wildkats vs. Grand Oaks Grizzlies
Willis is 2-8 against Grand Oaks since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Willis Wildkats will head out on the road to take on the Grand Oaks Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Even though Willis has not done well against Conroe recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Willis walked away with a 66-54 victory over Conroe.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Willis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jermaine Bishop jr, who scored 13 points along with six assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bishop jr has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chandler Beasley, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Grand Oaks scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Caney Creek 86-55 on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Grand Oaks who now have five in a row.
Willis is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. As for Grand Oaks, their victory bumped their record up to 16-13.
Willis came up short against Grand Oaks in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 68-55. Can Willis avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
