Baseball Game Preview: River Islands Riptide vs. Amador Buffaloes

The River Islands Riptide will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Amador Buffaloes at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

River Islands is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Johansen. The Riptide never let the Vikings get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory last Friday.

Cassious (Cash) Orndoff and Israel Fuentes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Orndoff struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Fuentes tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February of 2025. At bat, Orndoff went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Fuentes went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Santiago Lopez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Adrian Villareal, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

River Islands always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Johansen only posted an OBP of .167.

Meanwhile, Amador posted their closest win since April 22, 2025 on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Ben Holt College Prep Academy 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Buffaloes.
