Softball Recap: Erie-Prophetstown Wins Going Away Against Newman Central Catholic

Erie-Prophetstown won the last time they faced Newman Central Catholic and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Panthers put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 8-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Wynn Renkes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, Jaylynn Hamilton and Isabelle Olvera did most of the damage at the plate: Hamilton went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run, while Olvera went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Hamilton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilly Swatos, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Erie-Prophetstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Erie-Prophetstown's record now sits at 11-9. As for Newman Central Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Erie-Prophetstown will head out to take on Orion at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Newman Central Catholic, they will venture away from home to square off against Mendota at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
