Basketball Game Preview: Winterset Huskies vs. Van Meter Bulldogs

The Winterset Huskies and the Van Meter Bulldogs will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Winterset has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Van Meter will come in with four straight wins.

Last Friday, Winterset came up short against Gilbert and fell 47-40. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Tigers are ranked 77th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Van Meter). They put the hurt on Panorama with a sharp 79-55 victory on Friday. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 24 points or more this season.

Van Meter is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for Winterset, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Winterset strolled past Van Meter when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 64-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winterset since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
