Baseball Recap: Yoakum Drops Highest Score of Season Against Edna

Yoakum extended their winning streak to five on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 12-9-1 in the process. They were the clear victors by an 18-11 margin over the Edna Cowboys. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Garrett Green made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Green was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Yoakum's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-0-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trae Cuellar, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Yoakum: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-9-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Blanchard, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

As for Edna, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. Their loss continues a trend for the squad, making it seven in a row.

On Edna's side, Riley Palacios made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Peyton McCarrel also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
