Volleyball Recap: South El Monte Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

South El Monte took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Alhambra, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The South El Monte Eagles had just enough and edged out the Alhambra Moors 3-2 on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three games in a row.

South El Monte was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (107-104), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 21-25, 27-25, 16-25, 25-20, 15-12.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South El Monte to victory, but perhaps none more so than Johnson Phan, who had 21 digs and two aces. What's more, Phan racked up 18 assists, the most he's had over his last six contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexis Jacobo, who had 23 digs.

Phan wasn't the only good server: South El Monte was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

South El Monte pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Alhambra, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. As for Alhambra, they will head out on the road to face off against Bell Gardens at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
