Softball Game Preview: Taft Greyhounds vs. West Oso Bears

Taft has gone a perfect 10-0 against West Oso recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Greyhounds will welcome the Bears at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Taft's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while West Oso has been banged up by 13 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

If Taft beats West Oso with 15 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Greyhounds didn't even let George West on the board on Friday, marking the Greyhounds' second-straight 15-0 shutout. Considering the Greyhounds have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Josette Aparicio made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Taft let Daviana Mendez and Jewelysa Garcia run wild. Mendez went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Garcia scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Garcia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaila Castillo, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for West Oso's offense. They lost 17-0 to Mathis on Friday.

Taft has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for West Oso, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.

Everything went Taft's way against West Oso in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Taft made off with a 19-4 victory. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
