Basketball Recap: Harlem Simpson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Groves over Lake Orion

If Groves was feeling good fresh off their 65-15 takedown of Clarenceville last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Groves Falcons took a 60-43 bruising from the Lake Orion Dragons on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now lost six in a row.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Harlem Simpson, who posted 13 points along with five boards and three steals. Simpson has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacey Roy, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 13 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Groves smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Groves' defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Lake Orion, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Groves will challenge Rochester at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rochester will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Groves surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lake Orion, they will take on Oxford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
