Basketball Recap: Pyramid Lake Skates Past Whittell with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Pyramid Lake over Whittell in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Pyramid Lake Lakers blew the Whittell Warriors out of the water with a 58-23 final score. The Lakers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Pyramid Lake found their leader in freshman Drevon Carpenter, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 17 points along with five boards and four steals. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Carpenter. Another player making a difference was Zeke Davis, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Pyramid Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Loss or not, Whittell got some senior leadership from Rocky Laremore and Evander Lezama-Demazo. Laremore had five points in addition to ten boards and four steals, while Lezama-Demazo scored 11 points and three blocks. Laremore is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last 14 games he's played dating back to last season.

Pyramid Lake is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Whittell, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Pyramid Lake has already played their next game, a 46-39 loss against Virginia City on the 24th. As for Whittell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 74-35 defeat against Mineral County on the 22nd.
