Preview: Brawley Wildcats vs. Southwest EC Eagles
Brawley has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Southwest EC Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Brawley, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 44-27 loss to Calipatria. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Brawley has scored all season.
Despite their defeat, Brawley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Joaquin Lofton, who scored 11 points, was perhaps the best of all. Domanic Vallejo was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Southwest EC's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 16th straight loss. They were outmatched by Calexico on the road and fell 71-37. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Southwest EC in their matchups with Calexico: they've now lost eight in a row.
Brawley's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-11. As for Southwest EC, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road.
Brawley strolled past Southwest EC in their previous matchup last Tuesday by a score of 46-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brawley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
