Baseball Game Preview: St. John Paul II Academy Eagles vs. Cardinal Newman Crusaders

For the second straight game, St. John Paul II Academy will face off against Cardinal Newman. The Eagles will square off against the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. John Paul II Academy 3.6, Cardinal Newman 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

St. John Paul II Academy heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Monday. They came up short against Cardinal Newman, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Eagles, who until this contest were averaging 3.59 runs allowed.

For Cardinal Newman's part, Blake Anderson was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. Anderson was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Finn Duran was incredible, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dominic Demarzo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Cardinal Newman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for St. John Paul II Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-10-1.
