Preview: Indian River Indians vs. Tatnall Hornets
Indian River has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Tatnall Hornets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Indian River had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They snuck past Brandywine with a 14-10 win on Saturday.
Indian River can attribute much of their success to Darnell Stokes, who picked up 101 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Dylan Grise, who rushed for 17 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Tatnall can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Saturday. They breezed by First State Military Academy at home to the tune of 53-0. The win was nothing new for Tatnall as they're now sitting on ten straight.
It was another big night for Rahshan Lamons, who rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 125 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Lamons really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Tatnall also got help from Jayden Minor who showed off his sure hands for 98 receiving yards.
Indian River has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 8-3 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Early College (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.6% over those games). As for Tatnall, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Indian River has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 211.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tatnall struggles in that department as they've been averaging 169.4 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
