Basketball Game Preview: Oscar Smith Tigers vs. Currituck County Knights

The Oscar Smith Tigers will take on the Currituck County Knights in a tournament on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Oscar Smith turned things around against Great Bridge on Friday. They walked away with a 46-39 victory over the Wildcats.

Oscar Smith found their leader in sophomore Zyonna Ellis, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 boards. With that strong performance, Ellis is now averaging an impressive 9 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Reanna Keaton, who posted 21 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, Currituck County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 46-36.

Currituck County found their leader in sophomore Arianna White, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 16 rebounds. White's afternoon made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Banks, who put up seven points and five rebounds.

Oscar Smith's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for Currituck County, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Oscar Smith strolled past Currituck County in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 46-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oscar Smith since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
