Basketball Recap: Pinnacle Panthers vs. Monument Valley Cougars

The Pinnacle Panthers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 80-65 victory over Monument Valley. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Cole Barton was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. Barton is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominick Vigil, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.

Monument Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Melias Cly, who scored 27 points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Hicks, who scored 21 points.

Pinnacle now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Monument Valley, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinnacle will face off against the Buckaroo at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Monticello is ranked 129th, while the Panthers are ranked 128th). As for Monument Valley, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Pirates at 1:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Green River is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
