Baseball Recap: Claiborne Takes a Loss

Claiborne fell victim to Volunteer and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 2-0. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost six in a row.

Garrett Keiter was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Claiborne: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-5 otherwise.

Keiter wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Claiborne's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Volunteer, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-11.

Claiborne didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-11 win against Campbell County on the 28th. As for Volunteer, they will face off against Grainger at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Volunteer is facing Grainger at the right time seeing as Grainger is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
