Baseball Recap: Rockford Auburn Takes a Loss

Rockford Auburn had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-14 to make it four. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Belvidere Bucs. The Knights were not able to make up for their loss to the Bucs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Walter Povalitis was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamar Reedy, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run.

As for Belvidere, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-17 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games.

On Belvidere's side, Aj Vasquez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Vasquez a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paul Stark, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Belvidere's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-16 when he doesn't).

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bucs beat Rockford Auburn by a score of 11-1 on Monday.
