Manvel hasn't had much luck against Dobie recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Manvel Mavericks will venture away from home to square off against the Dobie Longhorns at 1:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Things were looking good for Manvel after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Dawson by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mavericks have suffered since April 19, 2024.

Skylar Frederick stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Kaylah Hopkins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Dobie was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell just short of Alvin by a score of 2-1.
Vanessa De La Fuente was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Dobie saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie De Hoyos, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Another was Chloe Nunez, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
This is the second loss in a row for Manvel and nudges their season record down to 8-7. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Dobie, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Manvel has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .530. However, it's not like Dobie struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Manvel suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to Dobie in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Can Manvel avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
