Baseball Game Preview: Maize Eagles vs. Haysville Campus Colts

The Maize Eagles will head out to challenge the Haysville Campus Colts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Maize 2.9, Haysville Campus 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Haysville Campus will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Maize extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Eagles came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Derby.

Maize got a great performance from Quincy Kohen as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Kohen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Parker Meirowsky was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Short, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Haysville Campus got themselves on the board against Maize South on Tuesday, but Maize South never followed suit. They came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 3-0. The win was nothing new for the Colts as they're now sitting on six straight.

Haysville Campus' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Maize, their record is now 13-6.

Maize couldn't quite finish off Haysville Campus when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
