Softball Recap: Fern Creek's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Fern Creek had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Portland Christian Eagles on Monday as they made off with an 18-6 win.

Skylar Brown was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Brown was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Trinity Neal was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Lanie Breedlove was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Fern Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portland Christian only posted an OBP of .391.

Fern Creek's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Portland Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fern Creek will welcome Jeffersontown at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will give the Tigers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Portland Christian, they will challenge DuPont Manual at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crimsons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
