Basketball Recap: North Pitt Comes Up Short

North Pitt lost against SouthWest Edgecombe back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The North Pitt Panthers took a blow against the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars, falling 52-24. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Cougars are ranked 71st).

When it comes to explaining why North Pitt lost, don't look at Zihanna Lightfoot. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. Lightfoot has been hot, having posted ten or more rebounds the last eight times she's played.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead SouthWest Edgecombe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kdeidria Collins, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 23 points along with six boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Whitehead, who posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals.

North Pitt's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the win (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 15-1.

North Pitt will welcome Ayden - Grifton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars challenge the Farmville Central Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
