Clear Lake put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their defense stepped up to hand the Charles City Comets a 63-0 shutout. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Lions' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa football rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Comets are ranked 190th).

Clear Lake's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Charles City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Clear Lake is set to take on their familiar foe West Delaware at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Lions 4.4, the Hawks 11) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Charles City will square off against rival Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
