Basketball Recap: East Hampton Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the East Hampton Bellringers came up short against the Westerly Bulldogs and fell 44-35. While losing is never fun, the Bellringers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 61st in Connecticut, while the Bulldogs are ranked ninth in Rhode Island).

Westerly was led to victory by Ella Reyes and Kate Rafferty. Reyes went 8 of 19 en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Rafferty posted nine points in addition to seven assists and six steals. Reyes is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Jenna Parker was another key player, putting up four points.

East Hampton's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Westerly, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Hampton has already played their next game (against Haddam-Killingworth), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Westerly has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Waterford.
