Recap: Gladewater Bears vs. Mount Vernon Tigers
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Gladewater Bears can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Mount Vernon on Friday, falling 49-7. Gladewater has not had much luck with Mount Vernon recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Gladewater saw an underclassman step up: Carsin Cooper rushed for 219 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Cooper's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.
Dawson Witherspoon was his usual excellent self, rushing for 237 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Mitchell Nuziard, who picked up 111 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Gladewater's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Mount Vernon, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Gladewater does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mount Vernon will be playing at home against Malakoff at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Malakoff knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 games -- so hopefully Mount Vernon likes a good challenge.
