Softball Preview: Williamson Warriors vs. Canton Warriors

Williamson will square off against Canton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Williamson's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Canton has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Williamson gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Line Mountain.

Kenna Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaegen Short, who scored a run while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Savannah Dean, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Short wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Williamson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Line Mountain only managed five hits.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Canton sidestepped Bucktail for a 13-11 win.

Addi Pepper was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, five stolen bases, and four runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee Ward, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.

Canton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Williamson, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Everything went Williamson's way against Canton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Williamson made off with a 17-2 victory. Will Williamson repeat their success, or does Canton has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
