Recap: Adams Cougars vs. Newman Smith Trojans
If The Adams Cougars were feeling good off their 62-32 takedown of the Turner Lions last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Adams was beaten by Newman Smith 57-7 on Friday. Adams was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-7.
When it comes to explaining why Adams lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jacori Luckey. Despite the final result, he rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Luckey is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Adams' loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 6.4 points per game. As for Newman Smith, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Adams will be playing in front of their home fans against Birdville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Birdville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Adams in Texas (Birdville is ranked 486th, while Adams is ranked 988th). As for Newman Smith, they will head out on the road to face off against White at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. White is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
