Baseball Recap: Clayton Comes Up Short

Clayton extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-7 in the process. They lost 20-1 to the Santa Rosa Lions. The Yellowjackets were not able to make up for their loss to the Lions from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Santa Rosa, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-3. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Santa Rosa's part, Maddox Lucero made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Lucero has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Landyn Zamora was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Cordova, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Santa Rosa beat Clayton by a score of 19-3 later that day.
