Football Recap: Payton Christy and Eva Tzelepis Pace Sickles Defense

Despite a strong season so far, Sickles has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 20-14 heartbreaker at the hands of the Brandon Eagles. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Gryphons came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Eagles are ranked 266th).

Sickles didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Payton Christy and Eva Tzelepis. Tzelepis is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as she's now defended at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Vinci Settlemire was another major factor on D, making nine total tackles and defending three passes.

Sickles' defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Brandon, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sickles will take on Steinbrenner at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' defense has only allowed 12.6 points per game this season, so the Gryphons' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Brandon, they will square off against Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
