Baseball Game Preview: Anderson Cubs vs. University Prep Panthers

Anderson is 0-10 against University Prep since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Cubs will head out on the road to challenge the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Anderson has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Anderson is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against University Prep, falling 18-3.

For University Prep's part, Tristin Raglin and Lane Powell were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Raglin pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Powell struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Raglin a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Raglin got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double, while Powell went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that Powell has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Luca Snell and Jack Ampi did most of the damage at the plate: Snell went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI, while Ampi went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Those three hits gave Ampi a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Casey Wrathall, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

University Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-9-1 record this season. As for Anderson, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-15.
