 Manitowoc Lutheran fought the good fight in their extra-innings  game against Brillion  on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Brillion Lions by a score of  8-7. Manitowoc Lutheran has now  taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
  Derek Laabs made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  scored two  runs and  stole three bases while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of  Brayden Bennett, who  went 2-for-4 with three  RBI and a  double.
 Even though they lost, Manitowoc Lutheran was hitting in the alleys and  finished the game with five  doubles. That's the most  doubles they've managed all season.
 On Brillion's side,  Landon Mathes made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound,   not allowing a single  earned run and  only one  hit over 4.1 innings pitched. Mathes has been consistent recently: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Mathes was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring two  runs while going 2-for-5.
 Mathes wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Jaden Bastian, who  went 2-for-5 with a  stolen base and two  RBI. Bastian has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in five consecutive pitching appearances.  Cole Dvorachek was another key contributor,  getting on base  in three of his five plate appearances with  an  RBI.
 Manitowoc Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Brillion, the  win was  the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.
 Manitowoc Lutheran is on the road again  on Saturday to play Howards Grove at 4:45  p.m. Manitowoc Lutheran is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7  runs per game  this season. As for Brillion, they have the luxury  of staying home for another  game and will welcome Kiel at 4:30  p.m.  on Tuesday. Kiel will roll in looking for their  15th straight  victory, something Brillion surely won't give up without a fight.
