Basketball Recap: Clarendon Extends Winning Streak to Four

Clarendon waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Whitharral Panthers by a score of 49-42. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Panthers are ranked 424th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Whitharral saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Paige Smith posted 16 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. That was a full 38.1% of Whitharral's points, marking the 14th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Chavez, who had six points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Clarendon's victory bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Whitharral, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.

Clarendon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-44 win against Levelland on the 28th. As for Whitharral, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-22 victory against Pecos on the 28th.
