Baseball Recap: Highlands Gets the Win

Highlands came out on top against Walton-Verona on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Bluebirds walked away with a 9-6 win over the Bearcats. The Bluebirds have beaten the Bearcats the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bearcats has come to flipping the script.

Brooks Hendrix made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Hendrix was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Highlands is 8-1 when Hendrix posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Noah Lahner and Michael Tincher did most of the damage at the plate: Lahner went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Tincher went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Lahner has posted over his last eight matchups. Kai Anderson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Highlands' victory bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Walton-Verona, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-10.

Looking ahead, Highlands will challenge St. Henry at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Walton-Verona, they will venture away from home to face off against Christian Academy-Louisville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
