Baseball Recap: Phoenix Pirates vs. Henley Hornets
Phoenix extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 8-10 in the process. They came up short against the Henley Hornets, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, with their most recent defeat being a 10-5 loss back in April.
As for Henley, the win was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.
For Henley's part, Mark Carpenter made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Carpenter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Conner Shively was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Ryan Douglas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Phoenix does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Henley, they will face off against Cascade Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
