Basketball Recap: Spartanburg Day Comes Up Short

Spartanburg Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. The contest between them and the Carolina Day Wildcats didn't end well, with the Spartanburg Day Griffins falling 62-44. That's two games in a row now that the Griffins have lost by exactly 18 points.

Leading Carolina Day to victory were Layla Hunter and Amy Rhymer. Hunter shot 6-for-9 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards, while Rhymer shot 5-for-9 from long range and dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten assists. Hunter has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times she's played. Selah Frisbee was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Spartanburg Day's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Carolina Day, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Spartanburg Day won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Oakbrook Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Carolina Day, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Carolina Day Wildcats challenge the Asheville Christian Academy Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
