Softball Recap: Ness City Comes Up Short

Ness City had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-5 to make it nine. They lost 15-0 to the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

As for Sylvan-Lucas, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

For Sylvan-Lucas' part, Harlee Nelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Nelson has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Josie Svaty was incredible, going 2-for-3 with eight stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those eight stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Crawford, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sylvan-Lucas beat Ness City by a score of 18-1 later that day.
