Volleyball Recap: Four Straight Road Victories for Raton + How To Watch

Raton had won four straight on the road, but on Thursday they bumped up to 13-3 to make it five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tucumcari Rattlers 3-2. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Rattlers on their court since March 27, 2021.

Raton found their leader in sophomore Aveah Marquez, who had 36 digs and two assists. Those 36 digs set a new season-high mark for Marquez. Another player making a difference was Addison Medina, who had 18 digs and three aces.

Raton was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in six consecutive matches.

As for Tucumcari, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. Rattlers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Raton since Thursday.

Despite the loss, Tucumcari had strong showings from Esperanza Martinez, who had 23 digs and two aces, and Serenity Savala, who had 19 digs, six kills, and one block. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Aragon, who had 12 digs.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Raton is set to take on their familiar foe Santa Rosa at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Tucumcari will challenge rival Clayton at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
