Baseball Recap: DeSoto Takes a Loss

DeSoto extended their losing streak to 13 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-18 in the process. They came up short against the Lancaster Tigers, falling 9-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.

Kaleb Thompkins was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.8 strikeouts per game.

As for Lancaster, the win got them back to even at 13-13. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.

On Lancaster's side, Derrick Chatman II made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chatman II also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lancaster is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-12 otherwise. Chatman II was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Leo Leiva was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Lancaster: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 11-12 otherwise. Anthony Jimenez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

As of now, neither DeSoto nor Lancaster have any future games scheduled.
