Basketball Recap: Ayva David's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lakeside Christian over Academy at the Lakes

It was a proper cat-fight when Lakeside Christian faced off against Academy at the Lakes on Thursday. The Lakeside Christian Lions took a 44-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Academy at the Lakes Wildcats. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Lakeside Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayva David, who dropped a double-double on 13 boards and 11 steals. With that strong performance, David is now averaging an impressive 8.5 rebounds per game. Lex Mello was another key player, going 6 for 8 on her way to 12 points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Lakeside Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Lakeside Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Academy at the Lakes, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Lakeside Christian and St. Petersburg Catholic will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Academy at the Lakes, they will challenge Seven Rivers Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
